Chocolate Avocado Mousse


Avocados for dessert. It’s the new Twinkie. Trust.

Full of monounsaturated fat, avocados are so great for you as they promote heart health and may help lower your LDL cholesterol (that’s the bad kind). They are full of fiber and contain vitamins C, E, K and potassium. Ingesting healthy fat like this can also help keep skin healthy and supple so it’s practically an anti-aging treatment.

Since avocados are pretty mild tasting, they can be added to most anything. Throw 1/4 of one avocado into your smoothie instead of almond butter the next time you whip one up. Or make this mousse. Creamy, chocolate-y, a little sweet…..basically the perfect dessert. Or breakfast. I don’t judge.

2 ripe medium avocados

1/3 cup cocoa powder or raw cacao

1/2 cup milk of choice (cow or nutmilk)

2-3 Tbsp maple syrup (the real stuff) or honey

½ tsp vanilla

pinch of salt



Slice avocados in half, length-wise, twisting to pull apart halves.  Remove pit and scoop out flesh into high speed blender or food processor. Add remaining ingredients to the avocado and blend until creamy, smooth and a little fluffy, about a minute or more. Taste and adjust to your liking (more sweetness, etc).  Put mousse into container and store in refrigerator to firm up for 2-3 hours.  Enjoy plain or with fresh berries and whipped cream or coconut cream.



French style- add juice and zest of half an orange (remember to reduce the milk amount the keep the right consistency).

Mexican hot chocolate style- add 1 tsp cinnamon and 1/8 tsp red pepper or 1/4 ancho chili pepper

Chocolate Peanut butter style- add 2 TBSP peanut butter
